About the Program
Radboud University invites applications for a fully funded PhD in Medieval Manuscript Studies titled “Unlocking the transmission history of the Physiologus and the multimodal nature of medieval manuscripts with AI-driven digital methods” at the Faculty of Arts. This doctoral position focuses on analysing the textual evolution of the Latin Physiologus, addressing how manuscript transmission, reception, and material context shaped medieval textual development.
The project forms part of an NWO-funded international research initiative combining medieval studies, palaeography, Latin philology, and digital humanities. The research duration is 4 years, based in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, with an expected start date of April 2026. The position offers interdisciplinary collaboration, advanced computational training, archival research, conference participation, and academic teaching experience within a leading European research environment.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field

- Willingness to collaborate in an international research team
- Availability for archival research and international conferences
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior research or thesis work on medieval texts or manuscripts
- Familiarity with AI-driven or computational methodologies
