About the PhD Position
The CNRS – National Center for Scientific Research invites applications for a fully funded PhD Researcher position in Palaeontology at the Biogéosciences laboratory, located in Dijon, France. This exciting doctoral opportunity focuses on marine ecosystem recovery following the Permian–Triassic mass extinction and contributes to cutting-edge international research in geosciences, palaeoecology, and environmental science.
This PhD will be supervised by Arnaud Brayard (CNRS Research Director) and Emmanuel Fara (Professor, Université Bourgogne Europe) and will be conducted at the Biogéosciences laboratory (CNRS/Université Bourgogne Europe) in Dijon. The project will benefit from both the facilities available at Biogéosciences—such as the GISMO geochemical analysis and imaging platform, preparation rooms, palaeontological collections, and photoluminescence technical platform—and those available across partner laboratories within the consortium. These include photoluminescence and Raman platforms, advanced computing resources, synchrotron expertise, and microscopy platforms at the University of Paris-Saclay.
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Palaeontology, Geosciences, or Materials Science. Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate experience in taxonomy, imaging techniques, or fossil analysis. Strong communication skills, a clear curiosity for palaeontological research, and the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams are essential for success in this competitive doctoral programme.
Funding for this PhD position is provided by the ANR PT-Revival project, led by A. Brayard and involving a consortium of five laboratories: Biogéosciences (Dijon), LEHNA (Lyon), LMV (Clermont-Ferrand), PPSM, and IPANEMA (Paris-Saclay). The position will commence in October 2026. It offers full research funding, structured training opportunities, and access to international scientific networks. Consequently, candidates will gain valuable exposure to global research collaborations, conferences, and professional development within a highly dynamic academic environment.
