About the Programme
The University of Tübingen, Faculty of Science, Institute for Archaeological Sciences (Palaeoanthropology Section) is offering a fully funded PhD researcher position in primate communication and language evolution. Starting in November 2025, this exciting project explores how great apes use gestures, vocalisations and facial expressions to interact socially and how these insights help us understand the origins of human language. The research is part of the Collaborative Research Centre “Common Ground” (CRC1718), funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The successful candidate will join a dynamic, international team and work closely with experts in primatology, linguistics and cognitive science. This position offers excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, advanced training in behavioural data analysis and probabilistic modelling, and fieldwork in challenging but rewarding settings.
