Fully Funded Postdoctoral Position in Mathematical Imaging and AI for Cultural Heritage, UK – Apply by 29 January 2026

About Position/Job

The University of Cambridge is offering a fully funded Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Mathematical Imaging and Artificial Intelligence for Cultural Heritage within the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP). This two-year fixed-term postdoctoral role is part of the interdisciplinary research project “MakingAI: AI-Driven Integration of ‘Messy’ Data in Technical Art History”, supervised by Prof. Carola-Bibiane Schoenlieb.

The position is embedded in the Cambridge Image Analysis group and focuses on developing mathematically grounded, interpretable, and uncertainty-aware AI methods for analysing complex and incomplete cultural heritage data. The project integrates mathematics, machine learning, imaging, and technical art history, in close collaboration with the Fitzwilliam Museum and the McDonald Institute for Archaeology. Based in Cambridge, UK, this role advances foundational research in AI and imaging while directly supporting art history, conservation, and heritage science.
