Fellowship Overview
Université Grenoble Alpes invites applications for the GATES (Grenoble ATtractiveness and ExcellenceS) International Excellence in the Humanities Programme 2026–2028, a fully funded postdoctoral research fellowship in France. This fellowship is designed for postdoctoral researchers in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. It is a highly competitive residential fellowship that supports advanced interdisciplinary research in experiential humanities, digital humanities, environmental humanities, and creative research practices. Fellows will undertake a two-year research residency at the Maison de la Création et de l’Innovation (MaCI) in Grenoble, France. During this period, researchers actively participate in seminars, workshops, and collaborative academic exchanges. The fellowship is closely connected to interdisciplinary humanities research themes such as architecture, urban studies, performance studies, cinema, design thinking, health humanities, and mountain studies. Furthermore, it promotes innovative approaches linking social sciences, arts, and digital methodologies with global academic debates. Researchers working on interdisciplinary, experimental, and practice-based projects are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) completed within the last five years and demonstrate strong international academic experience. Additionally, candidates must present peer-reviewed publications and evidence of academic distinction. The fellowship provides a monthly gross salary of €3020 and includes access to advanced research facilities, possible additional research funding, and full institutional support. However, travel expenses and visa arrangements remain the responsibility of fellows.
