Fully Funded PhD in Geoarchaeology and Middle Palaeolithic Archaeology at University of Tübingen – Apply by 27 February 2026

About the Program

The University of Tübingen invites applications for a fully funded PhD in Geoarchaeology and Middle Palaeolithic Archaeology titled “Occupational Intensity and Impact on Cave Ecosystems during the Middle Palaeolithic at Hohle Fels, SW Germany” at the Department of Geosciences, Faculty of Science. This doctoral research investigates Neanderthal use of domestic space and how repeated occupation affected cave ecosystems over time, addressing key site formation processes within geoarchaeology and Pleistocene archaeology. The project is embedded in the HUMAN ORIGINS Cluster of Excellence and the Geoarchaeology Working Group, with supervision provided within this research environment. The position runs for three years and is based in Tübingen, Germany, with an expected start in April 2026. The project offers interdisciplinary collaboration, advanced training in micromorphology and sedimentary ancient DNA, international research links, and strong professional development in archaeological science.
