About Position/Job
The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is inviting applications for the History Fellow, a fully funded postdoctoral position focused on the history of physical sciences since 1850. This three-year fellowship, starting between June 1, 2026, and September 30, 2026, offers an annual salary of $77,500 with eligibility for merit increases and full employee benefits. The fellow will dedicate roughly half their time to independent research and the other half to AIP projects, which include publications, oral history collections, and public lectures. Fellows will collaborate with AIP’s historians, librarians, and archivists, and can engage with statistical and policy research teams. Located in College Park, Maryland, near Washington, DC, the position offers access to world-class archives, universities, and institutions such as the Library of Congress, Smithsonian, and US National Archives.
