About Position/Job

The IEG LIVARCH Fellowship offers an exciting opportunity for doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers to undertake independent research within the framework of the LivArch project. This project addresses the challenges of documenting Russia’s war against Ukraine through living digital archives, combining historical, digital humanities, and ethical perspectives. Fellows will work closely with the Digitality in Historical Research | DH Lab at IEG, contributing to innovative research on real-time digital preservation and historical knowledge production. The fellowship encourages interdisciplinary projects that align with the institute’s research priorities and supports international collaboration.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Enrolled doctoral student or postdoctoral researcher
  • Proficiency in English
  • Research interests aligned with the LivArch project and the ongoing research at IEG
  • Willingness to reside in Mainz during the fellowship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in digital humanities, history, memory or heritage studies, anthropology, archaeology, or museology
  • Experience or strong interest in digital archiving, social media analysis, or data visualisation relating to conflict studies

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research within the scope of the LivArch project
  • Participate actively in the IEG research community and attend weekly colloquia
  • Present research findings at least once during the fellowship period
  • Collaborate with the DH Lab and project members on interdisciplinary approaches to living archives
