About the Position
Birkbeck, University of London, invites applications for a permanent, full-time Lecturer in Ancient History and Classics at the School of Historical Studies, starting Autumn 2026. This position offers a stimulating environment to contribute to teaching, research, and curriculum development across BA and MA programmes in Ancient History, Classical Studies, and Classics.
The successful candidate will bring expertise in ancient Greek history and literature, and demonstrate the capacity to participate in interdisciplinary teaching and research, supervise doctoral students, and engage with collaborative programmes in areas such as identity, race, ethnicity, and gender. Opportunities include involvement in Birkbeck’s Immersive Learning Centre for innovative teaching and research.
This permanent, full-time role includes teaching responsibilities in the evenings (6–9 pm), supervision, assessment, pastoral care, and administration. The postholder will contribute to the School’s intellectual and cultural life, as well as outreach and collaboration with wider academic and cultural institutions.
Salary & Benefits: £44,247 rising to £60,858 per annum, generous pension scheme, 31 days annual leave, flexible working arrangements, and a vibrant academic community in Euston, London.

- Strong communication skills and capacity for collaborative teaching/research
- Experience with cultural institutions is advantageous
