About the Position
University College Cork (UCC), one of Ireland’s leading research-intensive universities, invites applications for a Lecturer in Archaeology (Western European Prehistory) as part of the strategic UCC Futures – Future Humanities initiative. This is a permanent, whole-time academic post within the Department of Archaeology, which has over a century-long tradition of excellence in teaching and research.
The successful candidate will specialise in Western European prehistory, with expertise in the Mesolithic, Neolithic, or Bronze Age, and will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across Irish and European prehistory. The role combines research-led teaching, active research, fieldwork development, and postgraduate supervision, supporting UCC’s mission as a globally engaged, research-driven university. This position offers a strong platform for long-term academic development within Ireland’s vibrant archaeological research community.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Doctoral qualification in Archaeology with specialisation in Western European Prehistory
- Relevant university-level teaching experience
- Strong record of peer-reviewed research publications
- Evidence of postdoctoral research experience
- Ability to teach across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
- Experience or potential in PhD supervision
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills
- Commitment to research-led teaching and curriculum development
Preferred Qualifications:
- Research focuses on the Neolithic or Bronze Age
- Research interest in the Prehistoric Archaeology of Ireland
- Established fieldwork experience
- Experience in academic administration
- Engagement with professional or academic bodies
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver foundation and advanced courses in Irish and European prehistory
- Conduct independent, high-quality research and publish in peer-reviewed outlets
- Supervise Master’s and PhD students
- Support the development of fieldwork and work placements
- Contribute to departmental, school, and university academic life
- Engage in administrative and community-facing academic activities
