About the Position
King’s College London is inviting applications for a Lecturer in the History of Early Modern Europe and the World in the Department of History. This fixed-term role, starting in January 2026 and running until December 2030, is funded through a prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant awarded to Professor Francisco Bethencourt. The successful candidate will join an internationally recognised department that values interdisciplinary approaches and global perspectives, contributing to teaching and research on topics such as European Expansion (1500–1800), World History (1500–1900), and Early Modern Visual Culture. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in a relevant subject area
- Proven research expertise in Early Modern European and/or World History
- Experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Ability to engage and support diverse student cohorts
- Strong collaborative and administrative skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in teaching and mentoring postgraduate students
- Evidence of international or interdisciplinary research collaboration
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules, including World History 1500–1900 and European Expansion 1500–1800
- Contribute to departmental survey and skills modules
- Develop and deliver high-quality research in Early Modern and World History
- Support departmental administration and collaborative activities
