The Vrije University Amsterdam invites applications for a Junior Lecturer in Archaeology, with a specialization in Northwest European and/or Roman archaeology. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality teaching in the joint BA program offered through ACASA (Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and Archaeology), a collaborative venture with the University of Amsterdam. The role is part of a dynamic, international, and interdisciplinary academic environment, supporting both Dutch and English instruction tracks and fostering active curriculum development and program enrichment.

Salary Range: €3,378 – €4,227 gross/month (full-time equivalent)
Required Degree/Diploma: Master’s or PhD in Archaeology

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s or PhD in Archaeology
Specialization in Northwestern Europe, preferably Roman period
Proven teaching skills with positive evaluations
Willingness to obtain Dutch Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO)
Experience in thesis supervision
Strong command of Dutch and English

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous university-level teaching experience
Administrative and committee involvement experience
Interest in collaborative and multidisciplinary education

Key Responsibilities

Teach and co-teach undergraduate courses in archaeology
Supervise BA theses
Contribute to course development and curriculum refinement
Attend team meetings and serve on academic committees
Perform administrative and managerial duties (10% of role)
