About the Position

Leiden University’s Faculty of Archaeology invites applications for a dual-role position: Post-doctoral Researcher and Project Manager. This role is part of the prestigious NWO-VICI project “Hominin FoodWays” led by Prof. A.G. Henry, focusing on agent-based modelling of early hominin migrations into western Eurasia. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related fields by start date
  • Experience with agent-based modelling
  • Proficiency in English and willingness to travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in palaeoanthropology or human evolution
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of open science and public outreach
  • EU/International fieldwork readiness and driver’s licence
  • Familiarity with research permitting and ethical approval procedures

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop agent-based simulations of hominin dispersals
  • Manage data protocols, permits, and Open Science practices
  • Organise public engagement activities and events
  • Lead Work Package 3 of the FoodWays project
  • Support research across WP1 and WP2
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • Actively participate in academic community events
