About the Grant
The Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa) is inviting applications for a Research Grant for a Master’s student in Social and Political History of the 19th and 20th centuries in Portugal and related regions. Additionally, this is a full-time grant that starts immediately and lasts for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will work within the Social History Archive (AHS-ICS) under the supervision of Dr. Inês Ponte, supporting archival research, cataloguing, and dissemination of historical documents. In addition, the grant offers hands-on experience in archival processing, scientific communication, and participation in national and international events. Consequently, it provides excellent exposure for students pursuing careers in social sciences, history, and archival studies.

Research Focus/Area
- Social and political history of the 19th and 20th centuries in Portugal and related regions
- Cataloguing and processing archival documentation
- Support for preparation of publications on the history and memory of AHS-ICS
- Contribution to the AHS-ICS Bulletin, Mensário
- Participation in events to disseminate research results
Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Enrolment in a Master’s programme in History, Documentation Sciences, or Archival Science
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Political Science, Documentation Sciences, or Communication Sciences
- Proficiency in archival standards and the AtoM Archival Management Tool
- Strong communication skills in social sciences
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Portuguese and English
- Experience in archival description and customer service
- Scientific interest in social and political history of 19th–20th century Portugal and related geographies
