About the Position
Queen’s University Belfast invites applications for a Fully Funded Research Fellow position in palaeoecology and environmental archaeology within the Archaeology and Palaeoecology research group, based in Belfast, United Kingdom. This 2.5-year position investigates environmental change, agrarian regimes, and inequality formation in early medieval societies through the Ecologies of Governance project. The role contributes directly to international collaborations examining royal landscapes across Britain and Ireland within the broader Archaeology and Palaeoecology discipline.
The successful candidate will actively undertake fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and interdisciplinary research using multi-proxy palaeoecological datasets. Moreover, the position integrates palynology, isotope analysis, diatom studies, and XRF methods to reconstruct ecological systems and governance landscapes. Strong collaboration with Newcastle University and Cardiff University teams forms a central component of the project. Career development opportunities are significant. Training is tailored.
The post offers a competitive salary between £41,519 and £44,035 per annum alongside access to advanced facilities including the 14CHRONO Centre and the Institute for Heritage and Environmental Science. Candidates with expertise in environmental archaeology, palaeoecology, or Earth system science methods are strongly encouraged to apply. This project enhances interdisciplinary environmental research careers globally.
