The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali invites applications for admission to its PhD program for August 2025 in the following disciplines:
- Biological Sciences
- Chemical Sciences
- Physical Sciences
- Earth and Environmental Sciences
- Humanities and Social Sciences
- Interdisciplinary Research Areas

Eligibility/Qualification:
To be eligible, candidates must have:
- A CSIR-UGC-JRF / ICMR-JRF / DBT-JRF / DBT-BINC / DST-INSPIRE or other national-level fellowships. or equivalent degree with good academic records.
- CSIR-UGC-JRF / ICMR-JRF / DBT-JRF / DBT-BINC / DST-INSPIRE or other national-level fellowships.
- Candidates with GATE/JEST/GPAT/ICAR-NET/NET-LS may also apply for a PhD without a fellowship.
DEPARTMENTAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
- Biological Sciences
- Master’ s / B.Tech / MBBS / M.Tech / M.Pharm degree with at least 60% marks.
- Must qualify GATE / CSIR-UGC (JRF/LS) / ICMR-JRF / ICAR-NET / DBT-JRF (Cat I/II) / DBT-BINC / DST-INSPIRE or equivalent.
- Chemical Sciences
- Master’s / B.Tech / MBBS / M.Tech / M.Pharm in Chemical, Physical, Biochemical Sciences, Biotechnology, or Nanotechnology.
- Must qualify CSIR-UGC (JRF/LS) / ICMR-JRF / DBT-JRF / DBT-BINC / DST-INSPIRE.
- Physical Sciences
- Master’ s / B.Tech / M.Tech with at least 60% marks.
- Must qualify CSIR-UGC (JRF/LS), JEST-Physics, DST-INSPIRE (Physics), or GATE-Physics.
- Earth and Environmental Sciences
- MSc/M.Tech in relevant fields like Atmospheric Sciences, Climate Sciences, Data Science, Remote Sensing, Hydrology, Planetary Science, etc.
- Must qualify GATE, CSIR-UGC (JRF/LS), DST-INSPIRE, and DBT-JRF.
- Humanities and Social Sciences
- MA/MSc/MPhil/B.Arch/M.Arch in History, Literature, Political Economy, Archaeology, Anthropology, etc.
- Must qualify GATE, UGC (JRF/LS).
Additional Requirement: Candidates must submit a 1500-word research proposal to hssiisermohali@gmail.com with the subject line mentioning the research area (History, Literature, Archaeology, etc.).
