PhD research in Bayesian inversion of seismic intensities at ICM-CSIC, Barcelona – Fully funded opportunity for geoscience and seismology scholars

PhD Admissions: Fully Funded PhD at The Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC), Barcelona, Spain

About the Programme

Looking for a fully funded PhD in geosciences or computational seismology? The Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC) in Barcelona invites applications for a prestigious doctoral position in Bayesian inversion of seismic intensities to analyse historical earthquakes. This research opportunity is part of the SIGMA3 programme, in collaboration with EDF France.

The project aims to improve seismic hazard assessment by combining historical earthquake data with modern instrumental records through advanced Bayesian probabilistic methods. The successful candidate will help develop new algorithms and models to refine Intensity Prediction Equations (IPEs) and generate more accurate seismicity catalogues for France.

This PhD opportunity is ideal for students passionate about geoscience, seismology, programming, and data modelling. It provides a chance to work in a leading international research institute with access to world-class scientific resources and supervision.
