The University College Dublin (UCD) is offering a fully funded PhD Scholarship in AI and Heritage Futures: Preservation, Creation and Regulation of Evolutionary Heritage from Digitalised to Born-digital. Hosted by the School of Information and Communication Studies (ICS) and supervised by Dr Sun Park, this exciting doctoral opportunity explores the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital heritage, and cultural preservation. The project aims to investigate how AI technologies transform heritage—from tangible artefacts to digital and AI-generated cultural assets. The position offers an ideal environment for interdisciplinary research, combining computer science, social science, and policy studies within one of Ireland’s leading research universities.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree (2:1 or equivalent GPA) in Computer Science, Information Science, Digital Humanities, Anthropology, Sociology, Public/Cultural Policy, Law, or related disciplines
  • Excellent command of English (C1 or C2 CEFR level)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in research or project work related to AI, digital culture, or heritage studies
  • Strong analytical, technical, or qualitative research skills
  • Familiarity with programming, data analysis, or qualitative research methods
  • Demonstrated organisational and communication abilities
