About the Program
Panthéon-Sorbonne University Paris 1 is offering a fully funded 3-year PhD position in Archaeology within the UFR Histoire. This doctoral project will contribute to the research initiative FACES, focusing on the study of Paris’s historic buildings and the evolution of its urban fabric. Under the guidance of Dr. Hélène Noizet, the project explores how medieval and early modern architecture shaped the cityscape, combining archival research with cutting-edge digital tools such as laser scanning, drones, photogrammetry, and GIS. By building a detailed inventory of building types, façades, and chronological layers, this PhD will deepen our understanding of Paris’s architectural heritage and its interaction with parcels and streets. This is a unique opportunity to work in one of Europe’s most prestigious institutions, bridging history, archaeology, and digital humanities.
