About the PhD Position
The University of Bergen invites applications for a fully funded PhD in Arctic Palaeoceanography within the Department of Earth Science, based in Bergen, Norway.
This doctoral project focuses on understanding Atlantic water inflow into the Arctic and its effects on sea ice during past warm periods. It contributes to ongoing research in Geosciences, addressing climate variability and ocean-ice interactions. The position is supervised by Stijn De Schepper and is affiliated with the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research (BCCR).
The role is funded for 3 years, with the possibility of a 4th year for teaching or career-promoting work, and offers an annual salary of NOK 568,700. The research will involve marine palynology, stable isotope analysis, and fieldwork in the Nordic Seas, providing structured doctoral training, international collaboration, and access to advanced research facilities.
This opportunity is suitable for candidates with a background in Geosciences, (Marine) Biology, or related fields. It is particularly relevant for those aiming to pursue academic, postdoctoral, or research careers in climate science and palaeoceanography.
