PhD Position: Burial and Inequality in Late Prehistoric Cyprus at Leiden University, Netherlands

About the Program

Leiden University’s Faculty of Archaeology invites applications for a fully funded PhD position focused on Burial and Inequality in Late Prehistoric Cyprus. This unique project, part of the ERC-funded Inequal Cyprus project, explores how burial practices reflect and consolidate social inequalities from 4000 to 1700 BCE. As a PhD candidate, you will analyse grave types, burial rituals, and associated artefacts to understand shifts in social structures during the Chalcolithic to Middle Bronze Age periods. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Archaeology (or equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Cypriot prehistory and funerary archaeology
  • Experience with interdisciplinary and innovative research
  • Availability to conduct fieldwork abroad
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Excellent command of English
