About the Program
The Ghent University, Belgium, invites applications for a fully funded PhD in Geoarchaeology titled “Frozen in time – Unravelling Younger Dryas climate variability, environmental dynamics and their impact on human recolonisation in Western Europe” within the Department of Archaeology (LW02). This doctoral position focuses on investigating human and environmental responses to climatic fluctuations during the Younger Dryas (ca. 12,850–11,650 cal BP) in Western Europe. The research will integrate fieldwork, sedimentological and soil-based laboratory analyses, and advanced chronological methods. The PhD is four years full-time, offering opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, international networking, and professional development. The position aligns with Ghent University’s commitment to cutting-edge research in prehistoric archaeology and human–environment interactions and is expected to start on 1 April 2026.
