About the Program
The University of Cologne invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in Global History with the Emmy Noether Research Group “Managing Development”, led by Dr Katharina Kreuder-Sonnen. This interdisciplinary project examines management knowledge in economic development projects in post-socialist Eastern Europe and the Global South during the Cold War. The successful doctoral researcher will focus on a case study in Sub-Saharan Africa (preferably Nigeria) and contribute to a decentralised global history of development, management, and planning. Based in the Department of History, the candidate will be part of a dynamic, collaborative environment and work closely with another PhD researcher focusing on East Central Europe. The role involves conducting archival research, organising workshops, and publishing academic work. The position is fully funded and offers extensive academic and professional support within one of Europe’s most prestigious universities.
