About the Program
Aix-Marseille Université (AMU) offers two fully-funded Doctoral Fellowships at LA3M, focused on The Indo-Persian Continuum, c. 11th–17th centuries. The three-year fellowships, funded by Amidex, start on 1 July 2026 and are supervised by Professor Alka Patel. PhD candidates will conduct in-depth research on material culture in Southern Asia, covering Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. The program prioritises projects on the Sultanate period (12th–16th century) and integrates archaeology, architecture, art history, museology, and urban design. Fellows will participate in two international fieldtrips, to India and Central Asia, and will work in an interdisciplinary environment that provides equipment stipends, travel support, and shared workspace. The fellowships aim to produce high-quality dissertations written in English or French, contributing to the global understanding of Indo-Persian cultural history.
