About the Program
The GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences, Germany’s national centre for solid Earth research, invites applications for a PhD position in Paleomagnetic Field Modelling within the Department of Geophysics (Section 2.3 Geomagnetism). Supervised by Dr. Sanja Panovska, this project is part of the ERC Consolidator EXCURSION project, which investigates the Brunhes Chron geomagnetic field and geomagnetic excursions. The selected candidate will work with a global dataset of paleomagnetic records, deriving uncertainty estimates and constructing time-dependent models of Earth’s magnetic field evolution. This research will provide new insights into cosmogenic isotope production and Earth system processes. The position is based at Potsdam’s Albert Einstein Science Park, offering access to state-of-the-art resources, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional development opportunities.
