About the Program
The University of Bergen (UiB), Department of Earth Science, is inviting applications for a PhD Research Fellow in Quaternary Geology and Paleoclimate. This is a fully funded 3-year fellowship, with the possibility of a 4th year based on teaching or departmental duties. The position is affiliated with the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research and the new Centre for Mountains in Transition (CMT), which studies environmental change in mountain regions. The doctoral project will focus on reconstructing glacier retreat patterns in Norway, comparing post-Little Ice Age dynamics with current climate-driven changes. Using advanced remote sensing, lake sediment analyses, and statistical modelling, the research will generate high-resolution reconstructions of glacier variability. The findings will be highly relevant to understanding climate change impacts on Scandinavian and global mountain systems.
