About the Program
The GFZ Helmholtz-Zentrum für Geoforschung in Potsdam, Germany, invites applications for two fully-funded PhD positions in Seismology starting March 2026. These projects are part of the Priority Program DEFORM funded by the German Research Foundation and contribute to the international AdriaArray initiative.
Project 1 focuses on seismological imaging of attenuation and scattering in the circum-Adriatic region, using advanced inversion techniques to understand crustal heterogeneity and past deformation. Project 2 leverages Deep Learning and high-density seismic arrays to generate a high-resolution seismic catalogue in Greece and Albania, analysing small-magnitude earthquakes and deformation patterns.
Both positions offer a dynamic international research environment, opportunities to present at conferences, potential fieldwork experience, and the chance to contribute to cutting-edge geophysical research with societal impact. Candidates will be supervised by experts in seismology and geophysics and gain exposure to interdisciplinary collaborations across Europe.
