About the Position
Uppsala University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Archaeology at the Center for the Human Past (CHP) within the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History. This prestigious position is part of a pioneering interdisciplinary initiative that brings together archaeology, genetics, and linguistics to illuminate human development over the past 10,000 years. The successful candidate will apply computer-based analytical methods and work with large archaeological, genetic, and linguistic databases to explore cultural, linguistic, and genetic evolution across Africa, Oceania, and Eurasia. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Archaeology or equivalent (obtained within the past three years, exceptions apply)
- Proven experience with computer-based analytical methods and complex data systems
- Excellent written and spoken English skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications:
- Research experience with archaeological materials from Africa, Oceania, or Eurasia
- Proficiency in QGIS, R, or other open-source analytical software
- Commitment to open science and data sharing principles
- Experience in international and interdisciplinary research environments
Key Responsibilities
- Develop innovative interdisciplinary methodologies integrating archaeology, genetics, and linguistics
- Conduct analytical research using large and complex databases
- Design and execute a self-directed postdoctoral project aligned with the centre’s goals
- Publish findings in high-impact international journals
- Participate in teaching and supervision (up to 20% of the position)
