About the Position

Ghent University invites applications for a funded Postdoctoral (postdoc) position in dendroclimatology at the Department BW20 – Omgeving, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Ghent, Belgium. This exciting research opportunity focuses on dendrochronology, palaeoclimatology, X‑ray CT scanning, and wood-density profiling, contributing to the international ACTREAL FWO project (G019521N). Candidates will deliver final project outputs, support ongoing PhD projects, supervise analyses, and produce high-impact A1-level publications, ensuring proper data management and compliance with archival procedures.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with an experienced research team while undertaking independent research using increment cores, TRW and MXD series extraction, and CT scanning methodologies. Access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, hands-on experimental work, and guidance from senior researchers ensures a highly productive environment for scientific innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, high-quality publications, and professional development.

Applicants must hold a PhD in (Bio-)Science, Engineering, Physics, or Earth Sciences obtained prior to the start of the contract and demonstrate strong expertise in dendrochronology, palaeoclimatology, laboratory techniques, and X-ray CT scanning. Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis is essential. Excellent analytical, communication, and teamwork skills, alongside a multi-disciplinary attitude and open mind, are highly desirable.

This is a 70% full-time, non-tenure-track Postdoctoral position for 18 months, starting 1 September 2026.
