Postdoctoral Position in Geochronology at University of Caen Normandy, France | Estuarine Sediment Research Opportunity | Apply by 11 May 2026

About the Position

The University of Caen Normandy invites applications for a Postdoctoral (Postdoc) Researcher position in Geochronology within the field of Geosciences at its M2C research centre in Caen, France. This is a funded research opportunity focused on high-resolution sedimentary archive analysis, contributing to understanding estuarine system evolution during the Anthropocene transition. Moreover, the project explores how climate change, coastal development, and extreme events have shaped estuarine environments over the past two centuries.

The selected researcher will join the Estuarix project and work closely with an interdisciplinary team analysing sediment cores collected from Normandy estuaries. In addition, the study integrates advanced dating techniques such as radionuclide analysis (¹³⁷Cs and excess ²¹⁰Pb) and Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL). Consequently, the research aims to build highly precise chronological models to reconstruct environmental and morpho-sedimentary changes at decadal resolution.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Geosciences and demonstrate strong expertise in sedimentology and estuarine hydro-sedimentary processes. Furthermore, candidates should have proven experience in sediment archive analysis and a solid understanding of geochronological methods and their limitations. Excellent English communication skills are required, alongside the ability to collaborate effectively in international and multidisciplinary research environments.

This is a 24-month full-time postdoctoral position starting in June 2026, offering a funded research opportunity within a leading European research institution. Therefore, it provides strong scope for scientific publications, international collaboration, and career development in geochronology, climate change studies, and coastal system research.
