About the Position
The University of Bucharest invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in Geosciences within the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics at Bucharest, Romania. This exciting academic opportunity is part of the PNRR i 8 64/2023 “Paleotopography and Crustal Evolution (PACE)” project at the LYTHOS Center. Moreover, the role focuses on advanced isotope geochemistry, U-Pb dating systems, and crustal evolution research in European geoscience initiatives.
The successful candidate will actively contribute to laboratory-based research using zircon and titanite isotope systems. In addition, they will work on U-Pb petrochronology, element mapping, and atomic mass spectroscopy techniques. The position strongly emphasises analytical precision, geological interpretation, and modern isotope applications for understanding crustal processes. Furthermore, the researcher will collaborate with an international team using state-of-the-art ICP-MS laser ablation systems and advanced geochemical tools.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Geology or Physics, obtained within the last five years, along with a strong background in geosciences or crystal growth research. Ideally, candidates should demonstrate experience in isotope geochemistry, petrochronology, and laboratory instrumentation. Importantly, knowledge of radioactive decay systems, zircon geochemistry, and mass spectrometry techniques is highly desirable. Additionally, strong English communication skills and interdisciplinary research ability are essential for this role.
This is a part-time postdoctoral position (20 hours per week), offering a fixed-term appointment until June 2026, with opportunities to engage in high-impact research outputs and European-funded scientific projects. Consequently, the role provides an excellent platform for international collaboration, academic publishing, and advanced geological research.
