About the Position
The University of Cologne, one of Europe’s largest and oldest universities, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Position in the Konrad Adenauer Synergy Research Project “Rethinking Global Governance and Human Security: What lessons can we learn from the pivotal decade of the 1990s?” Hosted at the Cologne Center for Advanced Studies in International History and Law (CHL), in collaboration with Nuffield College, Oxford University, this project investigates the 1990s as a decisive decade for the international system. Under the supervision of Professor Dr Fabian Klose, the position will explore global governance, violent conflicts, peacekeeping, interventions, and state involvement. The post offers a unique chance to join an international collaboration, conduct independent research, and contribute to workshops and conferences. The role is full-time, initially for three years with the possibility of a two-year extension.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD/DPhil in Modern or International History (or close to completion)
- Research experience relevant to the project
- Excellent written and spoken English
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in organising academic workshops and conferences
- Strong organisational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritise, work flexibly, and meet deadlines
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent and original research aligned with the project’s scope
- Organise and lead workshops, conferences, and events
- Present findings at seminars, project events, and international conferences
- Collaborate with research team members under supervision and independently
