About Position/Job

The University of Barcelona is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in isotope geochemistry applied to nitrate pollution prevention. This exciting role is part of the innovative project “NPP-SOL”, which aims to protect Mediterranean surface and groundwater from agricultural pollution through advanced modelling and tailored technological solutions. The successful candidate will lead laboratory and field experiments, analyse complex geochemical and isotopic data, and integrate the results into comprehensive scientific reports and publications. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Earth Sciences with a thesis in isotopic geochemistry
  • Degree in Environmental Sciences, Microbiology, or Geology
  • At least four years of postdoctoral experience in isotopic geochemistry, nitrogen and carbon cycles, and bioremediation
  • Proven expertise in laboratory experiments, water sample preparation, and isotopic analyses
  • Field experience addressing agricultural contamination and remediation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of French
  • Strong organisational and team leadership skills
  • Experience supervising students and laboratory technicians
  • High motivation and an interdisciplinary research mindset

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and manage laboratory and field experiments on denitrification
  • Perform water sampling, sample preparation, and chemical/isotopic analysis
  • Interpret geochemical and isotopic data and integrate findings into project deliverables
  • Coordinate project activities and team progress
  • Prepare scientific reports, deliverables, and publications
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences
  • Supervise PhD students and junior researchers
