About the Position
The University of Nottingham invites applications for a funded Research Fellow (Postdoc) position in Jurassic Plant Research. This position is in Mesozoic Palaeobotany and Ecophysiology at the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Sutton Bonington Campus, UK. This exciting opportunity focuses on understanding plant performance and climate feedback during the Middle Jurassic, contributing to international research in palaeobotany, plant ecophysiology, and evolutionary plant science. The project combines experimental plant work with fossil analysis to reveal how plants adapted to warmer greenhouse climates, offering a unique platform for high-impact research.
The successful candidate will collaborate with a dynamic research group, undertaking independent research using experimental approaches, morphological measurements, and ecophysiological data collection. Access to modern laboratories, analytical facilities, and expert mentorship ensures a supportive environment for publications, conference presentations, and professional development. Transitioning between experimental and palaeobotanical methods will allow the candidate to explore plant adaptation from multiple perspectives.
Applicants must hold a PhD in palaeobotany, plant sciences, or a related field and demonstrate experience in Mesozoic plant research, plant morphology, anatomical studies, and ecophysiological measurements. Strong data analysis skills, scientific computing (Python/R), interdisciplinary collaboration, and excellent communication are highly desirable. Initiative and the ability to work both independently and in teams are essential for success in this role.
This is a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral position until 31 March 2029, with potential extension. Competitive funding is offered, alongside opportunities for international collaboration, conference participation, and career advancement in a globally recognised research environment. Scholars seeking fully funded postdoctoral positions and international research opportunities in palaeobotany, plant sciences, and climate adaptation studies are encouraged to apply.
