About the Position

This Postdoctoral Research Associate in Latin Linguistics at King’s College London offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the 5-year ERC-evaluated COALA project (Computational Corpus Annotation for Quantitative Analysis of Latin Lexical Semantics), funded by UKRI. Working within the world-leading Department of Digital Humanities, the postholder will join the Computational Humanities research group, collaborating closely with Dr Barbara McGillivray. The role focuses on designing and curating a large Latin corpus, managing sense inventories, coordinating annotators, and conducting case studies in Latin lexical semantics. This interdisciplinary position blends historical linguistics, corpus curation, and computational methods, supporting the development of innovative open-source resources for future research in Latin semantics and NLP.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Latin Linguistics, Historical Linguistics, Digital Humanities, or a related field (or thesis submitted)
  • Strong proficiency in written Latin
  • Experience working with Latin corpora or dictionaries
  • Strong publication record
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Medieval Latin or Neo-Latin
  • Familiarity with corpus annotation tools and standards
  • Understanding of computational semantics methods

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and curate a large corpus of Latin texts
  • Correct pre-processed data and metadata
  • Curate Latin sense inventories from lexicographic sources
  • Validate and refine automatic word-sense annotations
  • Coordinate a team of annotators
