About the Position
Sorbonne University’s Centre Roland-Mousnier is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in medieval history to work on an exciting project focused on the papal chancery of Pope Innocent IV during his residence in Lyon (1244–1251). The selected candidate will be responsible for identifying, collecting, and studying papal letters issued during this period. This full-time, fixed-term role is supported by a collaboration with the digital scholarly platform Aposcripta, directed by Professor Julien Théry of Université Lumière-Lyon 2. Starting 1 October 2025, the post offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the critical documentary history of the 13th-century papacy, while advancing innovative methods of digital archival research. Based in Paris, this postdoctoral role will suit a scholar with excellent knowledge of Latin sources, 13th-century papal history, and French academic culture.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in medieval history (or closely related field)
- Excellent command of French (working language)
- Strong knowledge of 13th-century history, especially papacy and temporal powers
- Familiarity with bibliographical research tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with papal letters and archival sources
- Understanding of French academic and research structures
- Interest in digital archival tools (e.g., Aposcripta)
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, collect, and study papal letters from 1244–1251
- Collaborate with the Aposcripta platform team
- Participate in meetings and discussions with historians and scholars
- Contribute to the dissemination of research findings
- Assist in the enhancement of digital historical databases
