About the Position

The University of Vienna is seeking a University Assistant Postdoc to join its Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies, strengthening research in Ottoman and Turkish Studies. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completed PhD in Turkish Studies
  • Habilitation project focused on historical migration research related to Turkey
  • Research interests in migration, minorities, and spatial studies
  • Subject-specific and methodological expertise in Ottoman/Turkish and European history
  • Proven research record with international publications
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Excellent Turkish and Ottoman language skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Very good skills in an additional regional language (e.g., Greek, Hebrew, Ladino)
  • Experience in securing third-party funding
  • Didactic skills and e-learning experience
  • IT application knowledge (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS)
  • Experience in organising scientific events and public engagement (“Third Mission”)
  • Teaching experience and familiarity with university structures
  • International experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop an independent research profile in Ottoman and contemporary Turkish studies
  • Participate in research projects and scientific studies
  • Publish internationally and deliver conference lectures
  • Apply for research projects and secure external funding
  • Prepare and complete a habilitation ready for publication
  • Independently teach courses as per collective agreement
  • Supervise and support students
  • Contribute to evaluations and quality assurance
  • Perform administrative duties in research and teaching
  • Help develop and manage academic journals at the institute
