About the Position

Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Faculty of Archaeology. This role is part of the project The character, occupation and exploitation of the offsite zone of the Neolithic settlement at Çatalhöyük, Turkey” (No. 2020/39/B/HS3/02405). The successful candidate will contribute to reconstructing the layout of one of the world’s most significant Neolithic settlements and its surrounding environment in a diachronic perspective. The position focuses on integrating archaeological and environmental data, with a strong emphasis on GIS-based spatial analysis, photogrammetry, and reproducible workflows. The postdoc will collaborate closely with the research team and prepare at least two scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals. This opportunity offers a chance to engage in internationally relevant research within a supportive academic environment.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Archaeology or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of prehistoric settlement development in broader societal and environmental contexts
  • Proficiency in GIS (ArcMap/QGIS) and spatial data management
  • Excellent English language skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with photogrammetry (structure from motion)
  • Competence in reproducible statistical workflows (R or Python)
  • Field documentation and GPS data collection experience
  • Skills in ArcGIS StoryMaps or similar tools
  • Ability to manage translations and basic web design (WordPress or similar)

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse and integrate archaeological and environmental datasets
  • Reconstruct the layout of the Neolithic settlement and surrounding zones
  • Conduct statistical and spatial analyses using reproducible workflows
  • Prepare at least two peer-reviewed publications in collaboration with the project team
  • Contribute to research dissemination through digital tools and outreach platforms
