About the Position
The University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Archaeology and Heritage Studies within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. This full-time, 12-month position is based in the Laboratory of Archaeology in Athens, Georgia, and offers the opportunity to lead significant cultural resource management and collections initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with the Georgia Museum of Natural History and the U.S. Forest Service, focusing on field surveys, artefact analysis, curation, and digital archiving. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Anthropology or Archaeology at the time of appointment
- Demonstrated proficiency in ArcGIS
- Archaeological field experience
- Familiarity with cultural resource management and collections curation
- Legal right to live and work in the United States
- Successful completion of a background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in archaeological curation and collections management in Eastern North America
- Knowledge of southeastern U.S. cultural resource management methods
- Supervisory experience in field and laboratory environments
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Phase I and Phase II archaeological surveys on U.S. Forest Service properties
- Conduct analysis, curation, and report writing
- Oversee the rehabilitation and digital entry of artefact collections
- Supervise laboratory and field technicians
- Develop and maintain a research programme in Southeastern U.S. archaeology
- Ensure compliance with cultural preservation and ethical research standards
