About the Position
Lund University, one of Europe’s top research institutions, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Earth Observation within the Department of Environmental and Earth Sciences, Faculty of Science. The project focuses on understanding the patterns, drivers, and impacts of vegetation fires and land abandonment in the context of global climate change. The role involves analysing time-series satellite data from Landsat and Sentinel, contributing to the Strategic Research Area Biodiversity and Ecosystems in a Changing Climate (BECC) initiative. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Physical Geography, Geoinformatics, Environmental Science, or a related field (completed within the last 3 years)
- Excellent oral and written proficiency in English
- Proven research record in GIS, Spatial Analysis, and Earth Observation
- Strong teamwork and independent research skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in remote sensing of vegetation, land cover, and fire patterns
- Proficiency in multivariate statistics and spatiotemporal analysis
- Programming experience using R, Python, or JavaScript
- Ability to communicate research results to both academic and non-academic audiences
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct high-quality research on vegetation fires and land-use change
- Classify and analyse satellite imagery (Landsat, Sentinel)
- Perform spatiotemporal analyses and time-series assessments
- Publish findings in international journals and present at conferences
- Engage in outreach and apply for external research funding
- Optional teaching (up to 20%) and training in higher education pedagogy
