Postdoctoral Position in Medieval Studies at the University of Southern Denmark, Denmark – Apply by 8 January 2026

About Position/Job

University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a 3-year Postdoctoral Fellow position in Medieval Studies, with a specific focus on Dominican Studies, hosted by the Department of Culture and Language. The position is part of the prestigious CODICUM project, an ERC Synergy-funded international research initiative (2025–2031) led by Professor Lars Boje Mortensen. Starting on April 1, 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter), the postdoctoral researcher will contribute to Work Package 3, focusing on medieval Latin manuscript fragments connected to Dominican intellectual networks across the Nordic region.

The research explores the period c. 1250–1450, examining education, book culture, and learned networks within the Dominican province of Dacia, while linking Nordic sources to wider European centres of learning. The project combines traditional humanities methodologies—Latin philology, palaeography, and book history—with scientific approaches, including spectrometric analysis of parchment proteins and DNA. This role offers a unique interdisciplinary research environment within a major European collaboration.
