About Position/Job

The CNRS – National Centre for Scientific Research invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Anthropology of European Institutions, hosted within the Centre de Recherche sur les Liens Sociaux (CERLIS) in Paris, France. This position is part of the ANR Art-e-Fact research program (Artistic Approaches to Ethnographic Facts on Institutions), coordinated by Professor Alice Sophie Sarcinelli at Université Paris Cité.

The fellow will design and conduct multi-site ethnographic fieldwork focused on medico-legal documentation of torture under the Istanbul Protocol, produce multimodal academic outputs for the Huma-Num digital library, and co-organise four interdisciplinary workshops. This opportunity combines anthropology, ethnology, visual research methods, and digital dissemination, contributing to international collaborative research and enhancing understanding of European institutional practices. The fellowship is ideal for candidates with postdoctoral experience, fluency in English, and practical skills in visual ethnography.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD or equivalent in Anthropology, Ethnology, or related field
  • Postdoctoral research experience of at least 2 years in international projects
  • Practical and theoretical skills in legal and medical anthropology
  • Fluency in English; basic French; other European languages may be required
  • Experience in ethnography of European institutions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in visual and creative research methods applied to ethnography
  • Ability to produce multimodal academic outputs (text, images)
  • Experience with digital research platforms

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct multi-site ethnographic fieldwork on medico-legal documentation
  • Produce scholarly and multimodal research outputs for the Huma-Num digital library
  • Co-organise four “Thinking-Through-Creating Workshops”
  • Collaborate with supervisors and project intern on digital library development
  • Participate in international interdisciplinary research under the Art-e-Fact programme
