About the Fellowship

The Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore (NUS), invites applications for its competitive Postdoctoral Research Fellowships for FY2026/27. Designed for scholars in the humanities and social sciences, these fellowships provide an excellent platform to advance independent research while engaging with ARI’s vibrant interdisciplinary clusters. Fellows will benefit from NUS’s international academic environment, collaborative networks, and opportunities to develop impactful scholarship on Asia that aligns with both regional and global research priorities. With support for fieldwork, conferences, and publication plans, the fellowship enables early-career researchers to contribute to pressing debates on migration, society, technology, and sustainability in Asia.

Fellowship Details

Supported Research Fields / Areas

Fellows must apply within ARI’s research clusters:

  1. Migration and Mobilities – transnationalism, urban migration, development, health and wellbeing
  2. Food Politics and Society – policy, power, technology, consumption, historical legacies
  3. Inter-Asia Engagements – heritage, museum theory, environmental justice, oceanic paradigms, Arabia–Asia connections
  4. Science, Technology, and Society (STS) – climate change, energy transitions, supply chains, planetary health, Asian medicines

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant field (awarded prior to application deadline)
  • At least two years of post-PhD research experience
  • Strong publication record and evidence of independent research plans

Preferred Qualifications:

  • International visibility in chosen research area
  • Experience in collaborative projects or competitive grant applications
  • Ability to engage in interdisciplinary and cross-cluster work

Not Eligible:

  • Applicants without a PhD at the time of application
  • Incomplete applications submitted after the deadline

Fellowship / Job Benefits

  • Monthly stipend: S$6,250 (inclusive of housing/living support)
