About Position/Job

The University of Innsbruck is seeking a Postdoctoral University Assistant in Geology with a specialisation in Structural Geology and Tectonics at the Department of Geology. Starting 1 November 2025 and lasting for six years, this full-time role offers the chance to lead independent field-based research focused on the Alpine region. Under the supervision of Ass.-Prof. Dr. Anna Rogowitz, the successful candidate will contribute to teaching, student supervision, and research within the Research Centre for Geodynamics and Geomaterials. The position offers opportunities for collaboration, use of laboratory-based analytical methods, and involvement in science communication. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completed PhD in Earth Sciences or related field
  • Proven expertise in field-based research in structural geology and tectonics
  • Knowledge of the regional geology of the Alps
  • Excellent written and spoken English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Scientific achievements beyond the PhD, evidenced by publications in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience with laboratory-based analytical methods and/or tectonic modelling
  • Academic teaching experience in structural geology and tectonics
  • German language skills
  • Strong teamwork and communication abilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent field-based research in structural geology and tectonics (Alpine focus)
  • Organise and deliver courses, supervise students and bachelor theses
  • Contribute to academic self-administration and departmental activities
  • Collaborate with the Research Centre for Geodynamics and Geomaterials
  • Assist with outreach and science communication initiatives
