About the Position

University of Exeter invites applications for a fully funded Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Heritage Science and Bioarchaeology at the Department of Archaeology and History, Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, Exeter, UK. This exciting academic opportunity is part of the Biocultural HIVE, AHRC RICHeS Infrastructure Portfolio, and focuses on interdisciplinary research combining archaeology, bioanthropology, heritage science, and forensic studies.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively to coordinate and maintain Biocultural HIVE’s digital, laboratory, and collections-based infrastructure. Responsibilities include stewardship of human remains and biocultural collections, supporting the SHArD 3D digital imaging laboratory, and maintaining an open-access digital database. The role involves both hands-on research, teaching support, and enabling access for external researchers, project partners, and students, ensuring ethical, legal, and safety compliance.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent experience in archaeology, heritage science, bioanthropology, or a related field and demonstrate a developing national research profile. Experience in interdisciplinary research coordination, collections management, or digital laboratory support is highly desirable. Candidates should be able to supervise student projects, contribute to grant applications, and work collaboratively across academic and professional services teams.

This is a part-time (0.8 FTE), fully funded, permanent position starting immediately, offering a salary of £43,482 per annum pro rata, generous leave, flexible working, pension, and relocation support where applicable.
