About the Position/Job
The Polytechnic of Leiria is offering an exciting opportunity for a Post-Doctoral Researcher to join the FAST Project – Tools to Support Tourism Sustainability, funded by the EU’s NextGenerationEU initiative under Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). This role focuses on the intersection of Human Geography, Environmental Psychology, and Sustainable Tourism, with a specific emphasis on eco-anxiety. Researchers will contribute to cutting-edge methodologies, including neuroscience-based models, and engage in internationally relevant scholarship. Hosted at CiTUR, this position offers an engaging academic environment and a chance to actively shape sustainable tourism strategies in Portugal’s West Region.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Geography or Human Geography
- Fluency in English and Portuguese
- Willingness to reside in Portugal’s West Region
Preferred Qualifications:
- Research experience in tourism or environmental psychology
- Previous work in sustainable tourism or circular economy contexts
- Experience with validated psychological measurement tools
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a literature review in environmental psychology
- Validate the Hogg Eco-Anxiety Scale (HEAS-13) for Portuguese society
- Apply HEAS-13 in tourism and circular economy contexts
- Develop a neuroscience-based model for eco-anxiety monitoring
- Present research at international conferences
- Write and submit two journal articles to indexed publications
