Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completed doctoral degree in late Antique or early medieval history, medieval philology, or related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of late Antique and early medieval European history
  • Teaching experience in medieval history
  • Excellent English skills (written and spoken)
  • Very good Latin language skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with interdisciplinary approaches and methodologies
  • Teamworking ability and willingness to engage in departmental academic life
  • Familiarity with university administrative processes
  • International academic experience
  • Fluency in German by the end of the second year (supported by the institution)

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting and completing a habilitation thesis, second book, or major research project
  • Developing an independent research profile

  • Organising academic events including conferences, symposia, and workshops
  • Preparing and submitting research funding applications
  • Teaching two courses per semester in Medieval History
