About Position/Job

The University of Basel, Switzerland, is inviting applications for a five-year Postdoctoral position in Mountain Macroecology within the ERC project GloNoMo (Global status, trends, drivers and impacts of non-native plant species in mountain ecosystems). Hosted in the Department of Environmental Sciences, Research Group Ecology, and led in collaboration with GLORIA and MIREN networks, this position focuses on the biodiversity impacts of non-native plants in mountain ecosystems worldwide. The postdoc will conduct macroecological analyses using novel global datasets, contribute to field campaigns in the Swiss Alps, supervise students, and collaborate across international networks. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in ecology, botany, biogeography, environmental science, computational biology, or related fields
  • Strong background in macroecological analyses and large dataset handling
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
  • Experience in plant species identification and willingness to conduct fieldwork in the Swiss Alps
  • Valid driver’s licence

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with GIS, project management, and student supervision
  • Strong organisational and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to an inclusive, collaborative research environment

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct macroecological analyses on global datasets of non-native plant species
  • Participate in Swiss Alps field campaigns
  • Collaborate with international research networks (GLORIA, MIREN)
  • Develop independent research questions within the project scope
  • Co-supervise PhD and MSc students and contribute to teaching activities
