About Position/Job
University of Sydney invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Coral Reef and Paleoclimate Research. This position is to join the Coral Reef Systems on the Edge project. This fully funded, three-year ARC Discovery Project offers a unique opportunity to study global environmental changes and coral reef ecosystem responses.
The successful candidate will work under the guidance of Professor Jody Webster and Associate Professor Tristan Salles at the Geocoastal Research Group, Marine Studies Institute. This role involves interdisciplinary research combining geochemistry, paleoclimate reconstruction, reef geology, and ecosystem response studies. The project also includes international collaboration with fossil reef researchers across the Indo-Pacific, providing exposure to high-impact publications and innovative scientific methods in coral reef and paleoclimate research.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD (or near completion with submitted thesis) in a relevant geoscience field
- Proven ability to conduct independent research
- Strong record of publications in international journals (Q1)
- Proficiency in coding languages (Python, R, Matlab, or equivalent)
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in geochemistry, paleoecology, carbonate sedimentology, or paleoclimatology
- Experience with numerical modelling and geological data science
- Familiarity with international research collaboration
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct high-quality research in coral reef and paleoclimate studies
- Analyse, synthesise, and curate project-wide data and samples
- Lead preparation of peer-reviewed publications aligned with project objectives
- Assist with teaching activities and supervise undergraduate/postgraduate students
- Contribute across all themes of the ARC-funded project
