About Position / Job

The Institute of Archaeology in Zagreb, Croatia, invites applications for a Postdoctoral (Senior Assistant) position in the scientific field of Archaeology within the Humanities. This full-time, temporary academic position is linked to the Croatian Science Foundation–funded research project “Between Reuse and Innovation: Understanding Microregional Settlement Strategies in Late Antiquity in the Eastern Adriatic – Re:Set (IP-2024-05-6792)”. The appointment is for 9 months, with the possibility of extension subject to project funding, and is expected to commence in early 2026. The successful candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary archaeological research, with a focus on late antique settlement strategies in the eastern Adriatic, combining field-based investigation with analytical and digital methodologies. This position offers an excellent opportunity for early-career researchers to strengthen their research profile within a leading archaeological research institute in Croatia.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Archaeology or another scientific field with a focus on interdisciplinary archaeological research
  • Fulfilment of conditions set by the Act on Higher Education and Scientific Activity (Croatia)
  • Compliance with the internal regulations of the Institute of Archaeology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous awards or recognitions for research excellence
  • Participation in scientific research projects
  • Published scientific papers and conference presentations
  • Research mobility, international training, or scholarships
  • Basic knowledge of GIS applications
  • Experience with archaeometric methods
  • Experience in field sampling, documentation, and digital data processing
  • Strong motivation for research work

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research within the Re: Set (IP-2024-05-6792) project framework
  • Participate in interdisciplinary archaeological investigations
  • Apply GIS, archaeometric, and digital documentation methods
  • Contribute to scholarly publications and conference presentations
  • Support project-related research activities at the Institute of Archaeology
